Haircuts!

I finally bit the bullet and decided it was time for Liam to get his first haircut.

I really loved the long shaggy look in the front...

but the sides and back were starting to look less like a cute shag and more like a hot mess.

Plus he started getting some nasty tangles in the back which were no fun for anyone.

So on Saturday, August 27th Liam got his first haircut!

Sitting in Daddy's lap, not really sure what's going on...

First snip!

First she did a dry cut, then she sprayed on some water and really got down to business.

Liam looked a little confused during the entire haircut, but never got upset!

All done!

Came in as a 5 month old, left as a 2 year old. Is this a mean joke?

Here I am being a bit dramatic, but I did get a little sad! I didn't realize "just a little trim around the edges" meant "completely take everything off the top." Had I not been snapping a million pictures I may have paid more attention to exactly how much she was taking off. But thankfully it's just hair and it will grow back!

I still think he looks absolutely adorable even if he did age 10 years in 10 minutes :)

And someone else in our family got a brand new 'do as well!

Five Months.

Liam Briggs, you are FIVE months old!

What have you been up to???

You sleep from 8 to 8! It's been fabulous.

However, your naps are pretty much nonexistent. I mean, you still "nap" 2-3 times a day, but they're on average about 20 minutes each. I wish I was kidding. So you "nap" about an hour a day, 2 hours total on a good day. Sometimes when you need to nap but you don't want to nap, you fight it pretty hard. But most of the time you're just happy as a clam so it's not so bad. I just don't get as much done during the day as I used to right now!

You eat five times a day at 8, 11, 2, 5, and 7:45. You either nurse for about 20 minutes or take a 6 oz. bottle.

I think all of the above is going to change soon though. You've been falling asleep earlier lately (last night, 7:15) and I'm having to wake you up for your last feeding so we may be adjusting your schedule pretty soon.

At the doctor on August 11th you weighed 14.6 lbs so I'm guessing you are somewhere between that and 15 lbs right now. You are now taking acid reflux medication twice a day. I'm not sure how much it's working. Somedays you have good days where you don't spit up much at all and never cry after feedings, and other days you cry a lot and act like you're in pain and spit up a ton. I really hope you grow out of it soon, poor thing.

You are wearing size 1 and size 2 diapers, but we're almost out of 1's.

You wear both 0-3 month and 3-6 month clothing. It depends on the brand.

You are such a wiggle worm! This month's pictures were by far the hardest to take because you would not sit still. I have a feeling it's only going to get harder, ha!

{Every time we would sit you in your chair, you would wiggle and slide your way down to the floor. I think you thought it was a fun game!}

This month has been HUGE developmentally for you! You already had a lot of your "firsts" but this month you have become much more consistent with a lot of those things. You are very stable sitting up in your bumpo now; no more bobble head. You are rolling over from your belly to your back all the time. You see something you want and you reach for it and grasp it like crazy! I love putting toys or my hands just out of reach and watching you concentrate and work hard to get to it. And you do!

You are a major talker/squealer. You will talk to just about anyone or anything and you looove the attention :)

You are SO animated! You make all kinds of faces and gives us the biggest smiles. There is never a dull moment with you!

You are very curious and like to examine everything very carefully. You stare at your hands and watch them move all the time, and you have started grabbing our faces and touching all over them/sticking your fingers in our mouths/pinching our cheeks.

{example of hand investigation}

Things you love:

You love to stand up. We hold your hands or under your arms to balance you, but you hold your own weight very well.

Bath time. You kick your legs and splash water everywhere!

You still love your swing, but lately just to rock and chill instead of napping much.

Your Johnny Jump Up and your jumperoo, but you don't do much actual jumping yet.

Things you don't love:

Naps.

Five Month Firsts:

You started eating food! As you can tell in my previous post, you love to eat! So far you have tried sweet potatoes, peas, and carrots. Peas are your least favorite, but you go nuts over sweet potatoes and carrots!

You can sit up in the tripod position. Sometimes you'll even lift one hand off the ground and rest it on your leg.

You got your first haircut! Mama was sad about how old your new 'do makes you look, but it is still looks absolutely adorable. (Post coming soon!)

You had your first giggle fest! I could have died right there, it was SO cute! (Ok, so this isn't really a real "first," but it was the first long string of uncontrollable laughs and I had to document it!) You and the dogs are becoming buddies and you think Rowdy is just hilarious for some reason. We were sitting on the back porch on Saturday and I was throwing Rowdy his rawhide. Every time he would run and get it or run back with it or turn circles waiting for me to throw it you would get so tickled! I really wish I would have caught it on tape! Poor Daddy missed it and we tried to show him later, but it was too hot and Rowdy wasn't in the mood to entertain anymore, haha.

Words cannot describe how much we love you Baby Boy!

My Little Foodie!

Ok so feeding Liam baby food might just be my new favorite thing! He cracks me up with his faces and his ability to get food ALL over himself. Needless to say, all of his meals thus far have been sans clothing.

Our pedi said we could start feeding Liam rice cereal at four months (which we did), but he was never a big fan. I fed it to him mixed with both water and milk and sometimes with a sprinkle of sugar, but he never ate more than a few bites. After a couple weeks I backed off and figured we'd try again later.

About two weeks ago he started really showing the "signs" of wanting to eat. All of a sudden he was REALLY interested in what we were eating. He would watch intently as we ate or drank anything, he would grab at our food and drinks, he would grab his bottle and his spoon (when I tried to reintroduce rice cereal) and try to feed himself, he made HUGE strides in sitting up and has lost the bobble-head thing he was doing for a while, and he has more than doubled his birth weight.

Then one morning last week I was eating a banana and smushed up a little bit in my fingers and let him taste. He went NUTS over it! I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty excited about it myself. I've been looking forward to this next step for a while!

I bought an assortment of fruits and veggies and printed this baby food chart to keep track of Liam's likes and dislikes as well as any sensitivities. I also added some foods they didn't have listed that I want to try. Once I know how he reacts to each food then I plan on making my own (I'm so excited to finally try out my Beaba !), but buying prepared foods for the first time was just easier.

We are starting with veggies and so far he has LOVED sweet potatoes and HATED peas! I got him to eat about half the jar of peas once I masked them with sweet potatoes which I already knew he liked. Sneaky mama! Apparently I only liked orange foods as a baby, but his daddy liked anything and everything so I'm hoping eventually Liam takes after Will.

*I have to amend the previous peas statement and say that night number two of eating peas went MUCH better! I actually got some smiles instead of a nose crinkle! YAY!*

Right now Liam only eats one time a day in between his 5 and 8pm feedings. Once we've introduced more foods I plan to add a breakfast meal in between his 8 and 11am feedings. So far it has been a really good experience, and both Liam and his stomach have tolerated it very well. Although, I used to only have to change a dirty diaper once every couple of days and now it's been 2 times a day, everyday!

First taste of food!
But not the first bite. We got that one on video :)

thinking about it....
thinking about it...

He likes it!

All gone?

By the second time, Liam was a pro and ready to feed himself!

Love that messy face!

Can't let it go to waste!

I think we've got ourselves a food lover!

(Must get it from his mom dad. Ok, both.)

A horse is a horse, of course, of course!

Liam had his first encounter with farm animals today. He met horses!

My parents' backyard backs up to a pasture and there are horses that stay there occasionally. We took Liam back there to see them, and all the horses were so friendly they came right up to the fence to say hello!

Liam wasn't very interested in the horses, but he was interested in their whiskers. (Which is what he is about to get a handful of in the last picture.) Poor horse, ha!
