So I keep meaning to write a 6 year old blog post all about Liam and it just hasn't happened yet, so today I'm dedicating this Friday Favorites post to Liam and some of his current FAVORITE things!
1. Game Ball
Liam got the Game Ball at his last t-ball game! He has improved so much this year, and has been hitting and running his little heart out. At this particular game he got two runs and his first out! We were so proud of him and HE was so proud of himself to get the game ball. He had me sign "Babe Ruth" on the ball because he's also obsessed with the movie, The Sandlot, right now. It is now proudly on display on his dresser!
2. His Love Languages
So, my girl @Jessica_Deford posted on IG last week that she was reading The 5 Love Languages of Children. Will and I read the adult version as a bible study years ago, and it was so helpful to acknowledge and talk about what each other's love languages were. I haven't picked this book up yet but it's in my amazon cart, and I'm excited to dive in. I'm pretty sure I already know Liam's two love languages, and I'm dying to read more about them and ideas on how to incorporate them. Personal Touch and Quality Time are two things I think he needs often. Which is hard to do with three kids; especially one that's already constantly on my hip. But this week, Will has been traveling and Liesl took a little spontaneous "vacation" to my parents' house, so I have been trying to fill up his tank with dinner dates, trips to the park (with Elias in tow, but still, it's been a lot of conversation with just him), and time together after Elias goes to bed. And you know what? It's been really convicting because he's been an angel all week. Hardly any talking back or tantrums thrown. So clearly, we need to make this more of a priority!
3. Pretend Play
80% of the library books he brings home are about army vehicles, dogs, etc. He sets up battlefields all over the house and the backyard. Everything turns into a gun (toilet paper rolls, sticks, you name it). Everywhere we go turns into a secret mission where he lurks around corners looking for bad guys to defeat. (We've talked about appropriate behavior in public with this, but he's just being a kid.) He is still allllll about it! Also, do you remember when the floor was lava? We are there again and it's SO funny! Liam is always walking crooked or jumping to avoid the lava and of course, getting Liesl to follow along with his crazy antics!
5. Board Games/Card Games
This kid is all about the games right now! We recently got Sequence for Kids, and the Easter bunny brought him Crazy 8's and he just loves them. He's getting better about not being a sore loser (still a work in progress, haha) but he is getting really good at following directions and understanding strategy. I don't have any pictures, but I took some insta-stories the other night of him dancing to his win, ha!
6. A Friendly Competition
Have y'all head of Mac & Cheese and Pancakes? It's this sweet little boy, Kaden, who started his own company (with his parents) to help fill local food pantries with kid-friendly food, like mac & cheese and pancakes. You may keep up with him on Facebook HERE or seen him on the local news a few times. Well, he's pretty amazing and his company has blown up since he began it just a few shorts months ago. Kaden and his family live in our neighborhood and Liam goes to school with him (he's in different grade). While we are not a competitive family for the most part, this is something we can get behind and both of the kid's school's had fundraisers for MCP. Liesl's class got first place at her preschool and won a pizza party, and Liam's class got 1st place (out of the Kindergarten classes) and won a popsicle party! Liam got very into it and helped me shop for food on a couple of occasions. He enjoyed wanting to win, but it was also a great lesson in caring for and helping others which he definitely came to realize.
And how amazing is this -- the last day of Liesl's school's competition, a local food bank was robbed of ALL their food and electronics. Kaden's mom came to pick up all the donations from Liesl's school and they drove them straight to that food bank to restock their shelves. Isn't God's timing so amazing??!! They also have a public shopping list up on amazon where ANYONE can donate and have it sent straight to their home. They have filled food pantries ALL over the Dallas area and have no plans to stop! And sweet Kaden is still just a little boy -- Will and Liam were at the park last week playing catch, and Kaden was there and joined in with them. Who knew a 7 year old could be such a role model for my own kids??? Especially one he personally knows! It's so neat!
