Liam + Toula + Rowdy = ???

I've been meaning to write about how the dogs have adjusted to Liam and their new lives not being the center of attention for a while now. But seeing as how they're no longer the center of attention, it kind of fell by the wayside.

We still LOVE our furbabies, but things have definitely changed since we added a baby.

#1 They no longer sleep in our bed (or even in our room) with us.

The first night home we let them stay with us, and every single time Liam would cry Rowdy would get so anxious and start pacing the room whimpering and barking. Liam's cradle also happens to be the perfect height for Rowdy to stick his face right in it to see what's causing all that noise. Not okay.

Every time we would get up to feed or change the baby, the dogs woke up and thought it was time to play or would bark to go outside.At 3am I was not in the mood to play or let the dogs out, and it was hard to see Rowdy get so stressed out from Liam's cries. So out they went.

We moved them to our guest bedroom and they absolutely love it. We took their beds in there, but it seems like Toula has now taken over Rowdy's bed and he's moved to the guest bed itself. He was never allowed to sleep in our bed (just Toula - he's too big) so he's pretty much in heaven now. We also put a fan in there and would turn it on every night to drown out baby cries but we don't need it anymore.

Even though Liam has been sleeping through the night for a while now, we decided to keep the new living situation for now. All we have to do at night now is let them out to go potty and and then say "Time for bed!" and they will both run in the guest room and snuggle up. Once Liam moves into his nursery we will probably bring them back in the room with us, but for now, this works.

#2 They spent A LOT of time outside the first month.

Luckily it was spring and the weather was great because Toula and Rowdy spent most of their days in the backyard. They are two pretty hyper and fairly loud dogs and with Liam sleeping so much that first month, I did not want them to disturb him.

They still spend a lot of time outside, but as I've gotten used to dealing with all three by myself while Will's at work (and since the weather is getting HOT here) they now come in and out throughout the day. And they come in every evening and obviously don't sleep outside.

#3 They do not get near the amount of attention that they used to.

I used to carry Toula around like a baby. Now I have a real baby to carry so that doesn't happen anymore. I still love on her and pet her, but I almost always already have someone on my hip so there's no more room for her. We also don't let the dogs on the couch like we used to because Liam is usually on one of our laps or on his lounger and we don't want them to accidentally step on him, scratch him, etc.

We try and make a point to take them on walks with us and take them to the dog park or play with them in the backyard, but honestly it doesn't happen as much as it should. I can't handle the stroller and two dogs so they only get to walk if Will comes along. Luckily they have each other!

We have seem some signs of jealousy from both of them, but overall things have been going okay. They haven't acted out drastically but sometimes they will bark at us or try to jump up on the furniture if they want attention.

One person they don't pay much attention to is Liam. They are aware of him and will sniff him occasionally but that's about it. Toula will sometimes lick his feet which I think is so adorable! Rowdy keeps a safe distance because his cries still bother him. I'm hoping as Liam gets older they will all be best friends.

Overall it has been quite a change, but I like to think it was a pretty doable change. Will and I both struggle with guilt about not paying as much attention to them as we used to, but we try not to be too hard on ourselves because having a baby is a BIG change and we are just trying the best we can. And we haven't had any crazy outbursts or peeing rampages from either dog which I consider a success, ha!

Playdates and Santa!

This weekend flew by yet again! But at least that seems to be the trend this week because today seemed about .2 seconds long and I am so ready for it to be Friday already! Christmas break here I come! I have a feeling the couch and I will be good friends =)

So most of you voted Will and I stay home during his time off, and we have decided to do just that! We have some fun things planned (mixed in with lots of sleeping-in and movie-watching I'm sure). Oh, and that thing called Christmas!

Our weekend was busy but fun!

Friday, Will had a work "thing" so he didn't get home until late, so I pretty much had my pj's on from about 5 o'clock on.

Saturday we got up bright and early and took Rowdy to his first playdate! The rescue center we got him from hosts reunions every once in a while and this one happened to be in our area so we went! It was so crazy to see about a dozen Rowdy's running around the dog park, and while he seemed a little shy at first, he was loving playing fetch and exploring with the other dogs in no time! We've had him now for about a year and a half and I can't imagine our family without him; he is our Rowdster! Interested in a new furry addition to your family? Go HERE!

So after we left that we drove back to the other side of the city for Griffin Christmas! We always celebrate early with Will's mom side because of out-of-town family and it was so fun! Everyone played in the annual football game, but this year I had to watch from the sidelines because apparently Liam is a liability =) Next year we'll both be out there!

Speaking of Liam, Will's grandmother and Liam's great-grandmother, got him the sweetest little baby book! I know I already have one, but this is more of a scrapbook than a memory book. It has a lot more places for pictures while mine has more pages for documenting milestones, doctor's visits, etc.

After dinner, gifts, and dominoes we pretty much came home and crashed!

Sunday we ran about a million errands and dare I say it, got ALL of our Christmas shopping done! Still waiting on packages to arrive and I have some stocking stuffers to buy, but the main gifts are complete! I felt like a procrastinator this year because the holidays kind of snuck up on me, but I'm glad I don't have to spend my Christmas break dealing with mall crowds!

On Sunday we also took the furbabies to get their picture with Santa! I know, you can roll your eyes, but we started it like three years ago with Toula just for fun and now it's kind of a tradition. Plus the proceeds go toward the SPCA which I really like.

What I'm Loving Wednesday!

Time for WILW!

{1}

While I was away, my sweet hubby brought down all the Christmas boxes from the attic so I could start decorating today!

This is only our third Christmas together - how do we already have so much stuff??!

{2}

I'm having lunch with one of my favorite people today!

Me & Natty!

{3}

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving! Will and I will be having Thanksgiving lunch with my family and dinner with his. We are so lucky our families are close enough to celebrate with both on the same day!

{4}

I love that Will's sister came by yesterday! She's been working a few hours away and I hadn't seen her in over a month! Will told me after she left she called him and in reference to my growing tummy said, "She looks so cute! There's a real baby in there!" Haha!

{5}

Toula and Rowdy's birthdays were on Monday! It's Toula's real birthday and we decided to make it Rowdy's as well because we don't know his actual birthday and it's not like we can give one special treats without the other! Will gave them treats on their actual birthday, but saved a few so I could be there too. We gave them doggie s'mores and these peanut butter things they go crazy for!

Do they look excited?! :)

Kindred Connections - Pets!

Windy Poplars

I know I've been doing a lot of these linkys lately and not too many of my own posts, but I HAD to join this one because it's about pets! And we have A LOT of fun stuff coming up in the next few weeks so I will get back to real blogging at some point :) Plus, they're just fun!

Questions:

1. What pets currently reside at your house?
Toula - 3 1/2 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Rowdy - 4-5 year old German Shorthair Pointer

2. What is one really strange thing your pet(s) does?
Well Toula likes to sleep on our heads which is strange to me! Sometimes Will or I will wake up in the middle of the night with Toula draped around the tops of our heads! She fits perfectly! And Rowdy has a security blanket that he takes everywhere! We gave it to him when we first got him, and he walks around with it in his mouth, plays with it, and sleeps with it! We even have to pack it when they go spend the weekend their grandparents! I know kids do this, but this is the first time I've seen a dog do it!

3. Now fess up here: give us your nicknames for your pets (we KNOW you have them - and we KNOW they're good)!
Toula is also known as Toula Boula, Toules, Boules, Atoula the Hun (like Attila the Hun), Atoula Oblongata (like medulla oblongata), Pumpkin, and Pippy (for her red hair and freckles).
And Rowdy is just The Rowdster.

4. Are your pets spoiled or not (grin)?
Define spoiled....do they get birthday parties with treats? YES. Do they only drink bottled water and have a different outfit for everyday? NO (except for Halloween - they get a new costume each Halloween). I'd say they're not spoiled, they're loved.

5. Insert pics here:
